Although the Internet has quite literally taken some of the legwork out of trade show shopping, there is no substitute for walking the show once you’ve done your research and are primed to buy. No other medium enables customers to see, touch, and compare the features of competitive products in a more time- and cost-saving format.
Smart show sponsors are integrating web-based tools with their show events to help visiting companies use their limited staffs and budgets as efficiently as possible. The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) has found several creative ways to enhance the visitor experience at Pack Expo 2009. READ ON

Check Out this Revolutionary Improvement in Food Packaging Introducing the SidePouch® FAS SPrint Revolution™! The SidePouch® FAS SPrint Revolution™ transforms food packaging by taking flexibility, performance and productivity to the next level! Versatile enough to package a variety of food products, from frozen meats to snack foods to fresh produce, the FAS SPrint Revolution operates in continuous, intermittent, or batch modes at speeds up to 150 bags per minute. Making its official debut at Pack Expo 2009, this innovative packaging solution provides the three attributes most critical to food packaging applications:
• Reliability – The FAS SPrint Revolution is engineered for high-productivity and maximum uptime. The system combines field-proven mechanical features with a state-of-the-art Allen-Bradley® control package that is supported by the industry’s largest and best service network. System-matched, guaranteed-to-run SidePouch bagging materials, with special features such as reclosable zippers and tamper-evident perforations, ensure smooth and consistent operation.
• Productivity – Designed to improve cycle times while minimizing waste, the FAS SPrint Revolution includes premium automation features, such as job set up, storage and recall, real-time productivity monitoring, simple and fast bag changeover features, and an ergonomic design that accommodates one or more operators or infeeds.
• Safety – The FAS SPrint Revolution features many design elements to help ensure operator safety. Bags are automatically trimmed and sealed away from the loading area; magnetic switches place the system in reset mode if covers are removed; and multiple layers of password protection prevent unwanted changes to operating and set-up parameters.

The Green Movement will be very much in evidence at this year’s Pack Expo, and our newest EarthAware™ EOF3 Biodegradable Film will be on display, as well. EOF3 is a three-layer, co-extruded material engineered specifically for mail-order fulfillment applications. EOF3 contains a proprietary additive that causes biodegradation in nine months to five years, depending on exposure conditions. Material performance properties and bag shelf life remain intact, as biodegradation only occurs when in contact with other biodegrading material, such as the conditions found in landfills and in home and commercial composting. EOF3 bags feature exclusive and patented design properties for guaranteed opening, sealing and strength, and are system-matched for performance when used with the Autobag® AB 180, AB 255, or PaceSetter PS 125 OneStep™ baggers.

Automated Packaging Systems’ booth at Pack Expo will be staffed by “the best of the best” — men and women who understand the technical details of our equipment and materials and can help you anticipate performance expectations and resolve challenges in your packaging applications.
Meet an APS Hero – or Two! The goal of our Field Service Engineers and Area Sales Managers is to win customer loyalty by delivering the right mix of customer-focused, professional support services with a sense of urgency and the determination to exceed customer expectations. Among the experts staffing our Pack Expo booth are two APS representatives who recently had the opportunity to put that mission to the test.
In May of 2009, a West Coast produce harvester using two of our FAS SPrint™ machines wanted to increase packaging productivity from 8,000 to 10,000 cycles per day. Understanding that a high rate of operator turnover can quickly result in less-than-optimum bagging performance, our bilingual technician and area account manager spent three sweltering days observing the operation to determine what changes in machine settings and operator procedures would ensure consistent peak performance. As a result of their involvement, the customer reached a productivity rate of 12,000 cycles per day - a 50 percent increase over their existing rate, and a 20 percent increase over their revised expectations! In addition, our technician was able to retrain the operators, thereby reducing the rework rate to less than two percent.
