Automated Packaging Systems Teams Up with BBC Technologies to Develop an Integrated Weigh Scale and Bag Packaging System for Fruit

Automated Packaging Systems, the world leader in high-reliability bag packaging systems, has teamed up with BBC Technologies to develop a new high-productivity bag packaging solution. This fully integrated system incorporates an automated weigh scale from BBC Technologies and the FAS SPrint Revolution bagger from Automated Packaging Systems for a unique packaging solution that improves productivity and reduces labor costs. The system is specifically designed for fresh and frozen food packaging and is on display at the PMA Fresh Summit in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA), October 18 – 20, 2013.

BBC Technologies is a global leader in designing and manufacturing food processing equipment for sorting, cleaning, weighing and packaging fresh produce, with emphasis on small, soft and delicate products, including blueberries, cherries, small tomatoes, cranberries and other fruit. The company has a wide range of high-technology products for vision sorting, soft sorting, weighing, cleaning, filling and turnkey solutions.

Automated Packaging Systems manufactures the SidePouch® bag packaging systems, which are ergonomically designed for high-productivity food packaging. A horizontal row of pre-opened bags are automatically queued for loading products directly into the bag from the integrated scale, then each bag is automatically sealed and transferred to a packing area.

“We are very pleased to be working with BBC Technologies on this unique system for fresh and frozen food packaging,” says Chris Rempe, Director of Product Management. “Their proven technology is supported around the world and allows us to offer our customers a fully integrated solution with labor savings that yield a strong return on investment.”

BBC Technologies CEO Geoff Furniss says, “Strategic partnerships like the one with Automated Packaging Systems enable BBC to deliver complete, turnkey solutions to customers, which is what the company is known for and what our customers tell us they want. Quality is top of mind for the companies using our equipment and this innovation with Automated Packaging responds to this need in an exciting and timely way.”

Automated Packaging Systems also manufactures genuine SidePouch bags, which are available in a wide range of sizes and with a variety of special features, such as reclosable zippers, resealable flaps, reinforced headers, easy-open perforations, tamper-evident seals, and stand-up pouch. These system-matched bags come in several different materials that can be pre-printed with high-resolution graphics in up to 10 colors, text and barcodes – making them ideal for retail and wholesale food applications.
